Hypoknit Upper

New Balance have reworked the textile upper that was used in the Furon V6 to create something entirely new. This new upper is called Hypoknit, and it’s one of the first things you notice when picking up the V7s. It’s soft, pliable, and flexible, giving you everything that you would expect from a speed boot upper.

Most importantly, the Hypoknit upper is very thin. This gives the boots a barefoot sensation on the ball. It also helps give the boots a minimal feeling when you put them on for the first time.

You’ll also notice that the upper leaves space for an off-center lacing system on the side of the boot. This helps ensure that the majority of the upper is a smooth striking surface. This makes the upper perfect for players looking for a really clean hit on the ball.

Lightest Speedboot Ever

The Furon V7 is seriously light. In a world where football boots are getting lighter by the year, New Balance has managed to edge out the competition. Nike’s Air Zoom Mercurial is one of the lightest boots on the market, weighing in at just 187 grams. At 180 grams, the Furon V7 takes the award of the lightest flagship speedboot on the market.

Despite its light weight, the Furon V7 still feels sturdy. New Balance clearly didn’t skimp when it comes to build quality. The upper, inner lining, and outsole are all seamlessly connected for a streamlined fit and feel.

Mesh Inner Lining

Beneath the one-piece upper, you’ll find a mesh inner lining inside the boot. This inner lining is what makes these boots so comfortable. The lining is made from a soft and stretchy textile that wraps tightly around your foot. This helps provide an equal amount of pressure on your feet when playing.

It’s often the case that football boots with off-set lacing systems can result in uneven lockdown across the mid-foot. This means that some areas feel tighter than others. However, the mesh inner lining on the Furon V7 is detached from the rest of the upper. That means that you feel even lockdown across your foot, regardless of the lacing system. Off-Set Lacing System

The Phantom GT2 has the laces attached directly to the Flyknit upper while the Furon V7 has the laces attached to the exterior Hypoknit material.

This lacing system helps to increase the overall lockdown of the boot, without creating any uncomfortable pressure points. The main benefit of the lacing system is the space it creates across the mid-foot. These boots have one of the largest and cleanest striking surfaces on any boot in the world.

Chevron Bladed Outsole

New Balance have gone with a chevron studded nylon outsole for the Furon V7. This outsole is flexible and snappy, which helps give you the responsiveness you need while on the field. The chevron blades are sharp and aggressive, giving you more than enough traction when changing direction in tight spaces.

Despite it being a well made sole plate, there isn’t the same high end technology present when compared to other new football boots. Nike has its Air Zoom pod in the Mercurial, while Adidas has the Carbitex plate in the Speedportal. The lack of fancy tech in the sole plate may be a drawback when comparing the Furon to other flagship models. However, for most players, the difference in sole plates shouldn’t be a huge factor.

Wide Foot Variation

It’s rare in the world of football boots to see wide foot variations of popular models. New Balance has decided to buck that trend by offering a wide variation of the Furon V7 in all sizes. This is a great option for players who love modern speed boots, but struggle to find boots that are comfortable for them.
