Best Leather Football Boots

Best Leather Football Boots

There have been so many advancements in football boots over the past few decades. One thing that hasn’t gone away is the classic leather football boot. Leather is soft, breathable, elastic, and durable, making it a great material for football boots. These great characteristics are why we have seen leather remain a constant even in the modern era of football. In this list, I’ll be highlighting some of the best leather football boots of 2022.

The Classic

Adidas Copa Mundial

The Copa Mundials are the boots that started it all. Since their invention in 1979 they have been worn by players at the highest level as well as those all around the world. Each pair is made in Germany and the build quality is great for the reasonable price of $130.

The soft kangaroo leather and a wide design make the Copas one of the most comfortable football boots I’ve ever worn. If you have especially wide feet, you’ll have no issue fitting into these boots. It should be noted that the boots do stretch out considerably after several wears, so I recommend going down half a size if you pick up a pair.

Laces on the Copas are longer than most other boots, so I wrap them around the mid-foot before tying them. The Copas also feature a classic tongue design that folds down on the top of the boot.

The Newcomer

Nike Premier 3

The Nike Premier 3 seems in many ways like a response to Adidas’ Copa Mundial. The boot has a similarly minimalist design that highlights a kangaroo leather upper. You even get the same conical studs and fold over tongue design.

On feet, you will notice a few differences when wearing the Premiers compared to the Copas. The most noticeable change is the weight. The Nike Premier 3 comes in at 8.6 ounces compared to the Copa Mundial’s 11.7 ounces. This helps the Premiers feel lighter on feet, although it does result in a trade off in durability.

The Premier 3 is also the best value leather boot on this list. You won’t find a kangaroo leather upper this good for only $110.

Top of the Line

Mizuno Morelia Neo 3

If you’re looking for one of the most luxurious leather boots available, look no further than the Mizuno Morelia Neo 3. These boots are hand made in Japan using only the finest materials. The leather is extremely thin, making them the most light weight boots on this list. Every detail from the stitching to the insole is meticulously executed.

These fine details on the Mizuno Morelia do come at a cost, as the boot retails for about $300. If you’re willing to spend a little bit more for a quality boot that will last years, then it may be a worthwhile investment.

The High Tech Pick

Nike Tiempo Legend 9

The Nike Tiempo Legend 9 is the most modern leather boot on this list. It’s also one of the only boots in Nike’s main line-up that still uses leather in the first place. If you’re into more flashy color-ways and higher tech design, the Tiempo legend combines these new school traits with the old school.

The soft kangaroo leather is padded with memory foam control control zones that help cushion the ball. The elasticated tongue also helps the boots grip your foot tightly. The Tiempo Legend 9 has all the great qualities of a standard leather boot, such as comfort and durability. However, it also provides great lockdown and a modern lacing system.

If you’re on a budget, the Tiempo Legend is also offered in take-down models that still feature a comfortable leather upper.
