Adidas X Crazyfast.1 – Review
Adidas Is Back with a Bang
If you’re in the market for a lightweight and aggressive football boot, Adidas is a name that needs no introduction.
Their latest speed boot, the X Crazyfast, is a testament to their commitment to innovation and performance. In this review, we’ll take an in-depth look at the newest X Crazyfast.1.
Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of testing these boots on the field, so I’ll share my experience regarding how they fit and perform.
If you’re considering adding a pair of these boots to your collection, you’ll find links to all the current models below.

Messi’s Touch of Magic
Adidas has unveiled the X Crazyfast in various colorways, but the Messi variation, in particular, stands out. That’s the version that I’m going to be reviewing today.
While the boots initially launched in a white and green color-way, the silver and light blue contrast in the Messi edition is simply stunning.
The design changes from its predecessor, the X Speedportal, are immediately noticeable. Let’s start with the Upper.
Aeropacity Speed Skin
One significant upgrade is the introduction of Adidas’s new Aeropacity Speed Skin for the upper.
This material is a slick mesh textile that offers a soft and flexible feel. It falls somewhere between the X Speedflow and the X Speedportal in terms of softness.
The upper provides a snug and comfortable fit while maintaining a lightweight and breathable sensation.
Aerocage for Lockdown
The Aerocage, a stretchy elastic material that enhances lockdown, runs through the mid-foot and under the lacing system.
It ensures your boots stay in place during intense sprints and quick movements. With no standalone tongue in the Crazyfast.1, they offer a near-laceless feel.
External Heel Counters
Towards the back of the boot, you’ll find two external heel counters that add stability during movement. They also serve as stylish embellishments on the boot’s exterior.
Unchanged Outsole
The X Speed Frame outsole remains mostly unchanged, featuring the same stud configuration and a plastic insert in place of the previous carbon fiber.
It’s incredibly stiff and offers the aggressive traction needed for high-speed performance on firm ground.
Fit and Feel: A Pleasant Surprise
The fit and feel of the X Crazyfast.1 was surprisingly comfortable. Unlike the X Speedportal, which left some room for disappointment in terms of fit, these boots deliver a much softer experience.
Roomy Toe Box
The upper feels soft and roomy across the toe box, providing comfort during play. While one-piece uppers can be a bit challenging to slip on and off, the Speed Cage’s elasticity makes it manageable.
Secure Mid-Foot Lockdown
The mid-foot offers ample lockdown. Even without lacing them tightly, the boots feel snug thanks to the stretchy mesh across the tongue. Adjusting the laces can provide more or less circulation, allowing you to customize the fit to your liking.
Comfortable Heel
The boots feature soft plush heel liners on the interior, ensuring a comfortable fit around the heel. This design minimizes the risk of blisters or pressure points, even during extended wear.
True to Size
In terms of sizing, the X Crazyfast.1 runs true to size. So, if you wear a specific size, you can confidently order the same size for these boots.
Performance: Speed and Precision
When it comes to playing in the X Crazyfast.1, you can expect a classic speed boot experience. The razor-thin upper provides an incredibly close touch on the ball, giving you a barefoot sensation.
During activities like juggling, dribbling, and shooting, it’s almost like you’re wearing nothing at all. They’re definitely some of the most minimal boots I’ve tried on this year.
Thin Upper
The upper’s thinness rivals other top boots on the market, making them perfect for close ball control and precise touches.
Although on paper, the Puma Ultra Ultimate and X Crazyfast+ might be marginally thinner, the difference is negligible during actual play.
Slick Upper
The upper’s slickness is a unique feature compared to other boots. While it may not offer the same grip as some models, it does make striking knuckleballs surprisingly easier, thanks to the excellent feedback and clean striking surface.
Excellent Traction
The Chevron studs on the soleplate provide outstanding traction. You can change direction swiftly without any slip, even on firm ground surfaces.
Minor Drawbacks
Two minor drawbacks include the upper occasionally bunching up around the toe box during play and the rigidity of the soleplate, especially towards the toe area.
While the latter enhances responsiveness, a bit more flexibility near the toe box would provide a more natural running experience.
Comparison: How Does It Stack Up?
When comparing the X Crazyfast.1 to other boots, your preference will depend on your foot shape and the type of boot you’re looking for.
If you desire a razor-thin upper with a close touch on the ball, and models like the Nike Vapor 15 and Puma Ultra Ultimate feel too narrow, these boots offer a more accommodating fit.
Conversely, if the New Balance Furon V7 Pro is too wide for you, the X Crazyfast.1 strikes a balance between the two widths.
Overall, the X Crazyfast.1 is a significant step forward for the Adidas X Series. However, it must be noted that these boots come at a premium price point, retailing at $260 USD.
This does place them at a higher price range compared to similar models from other brands. So you may also want to consider the Puma Ultra Ultimate and the New Balance Furon V7 Pro, as they offer similar features for a lower price.
Final Verdict
In conclusion, the Adidas X Crazyfast.1 combines speed and comfort, delivering a classic speed boot experience with a soft and roomy upper.
While this a great refresh to the X-series, the premium price tag may deter some buyers. However, if budget is not a constraint and you appreciate Adidas’s previous models, the Crazyfast.1 is a great choice.
If you’ve had the chance to try out these boots, let me know what you think of them. Stay tuned for more football boot reviews, and good luck out on the pitch!
